It started with a question. They’re not sure when it was. Or even who asked the question. But they remember the question:
What if several business owners started a group committed to providing the full variety of products and services necessary to start, relocate, or grow a business in South Jersey?
Greg Gutos of USA Phone, Tom Wittman of Wittman Construction, Bob Reeves of Sinclair Moving and Storage, and Chuck Dixon of Evesham Lock and Safe, don’t recall who asked the question, nor does it matter. That was the start of Jersey Business Leaders.
“All of us probably have a different take on it,” said Wittman thinking back to when that question came up in 2008. “I remember it being after a networking event, one of those events where you meet a lot of sales people, but not a lot of decision makers.
“And I think it was Greg who noticed that the four of us represented services that just about any business would need.”
Gutos doesn’t take credit for the question, but he explained the rationale: “A business moving into a new location will probably need renovations, if not the construction of a new building—that’s Wittman Construction.
“And that business will need someone to move its furniture and equipment into that new or renovated space—Sinclair Moving and Storage. It will also need phones, which is where USA Phone comes in. And, of course it will need new locks, and a security alarm system—that’s Chuck’s Evesham Lock and Safe.”
From that one question, JBL has grown to 15 members—decision-makers, leaders—committed to promoting economic development by providing quality products and services to new or growing businesses.
